The 2026 European Meeting of ISMPP in London centered on a challenge many publication professionals face today: maintaining scientific excellence while working more efficiently. With a record 428 attendees, the meeting delivered standout sessions, strong engagement, and expanded reach. Across sessions, speakers emphasized that the future of medical communications depends on balancing speed with rigor while preserving trust in scientific research.

Artificial intelligence was a recurring theme. Rather than replacing expertise, speakers encouraged attendees to view AI as a supportive tool. Like a junior team member, it can help with routine tasks but still requires careful oversight and human judgment remains essential to ensure accuracy, governance, and credibility.
Another key takeaway was the need for smarter systems and processes. From modular storytelling to automated publication planning tools, presenters shared practical ways to reduce repetitive work while maintaining consistent scientific narratives. These approaches allow teams to focus more on strategy, collaboration, and meaningful communication rather than manual tasks.
Patient partnership also emerged as an important priority. Sessions highlighted how involving patients earlier and more consistently in research and publications can improve relevance, accessibility, and trust. As the scientific landscape becomes more complex and content volumes increase, keeping patient perspectives at the center helps ensure research truly serves the communities it is intended to benefit.

“ISMPP Europe 2026 was an excellent event and I highly recommend anyone working in and around publications to attend.
