ISMPP is proud to announce that an article on its journey of engagement with patients as partners in medical publications was published on September 9, 2025 in Current Medical Research and Opinion (CMRO). Access Patients as Partners in Medical Publications: The ISMPP Journey of Engagement in CMRO.1

Patient engagement has evolved from a novel idea to a core principle in healthcare research and communication. The commentary, spearheaded by the ISMPP Patient Engagement Task Force (PETF), traces this evolution, highlighting the shift from patients as trial participants to active partners in disseminating research findings. The article explores the growing emphasis on how to engage patients meaningfully, reflecting a cultural shift in the medical publication landscape. It also showcases ISMPP’s leadership in advancing patient engagement through initiatives such as the PETF, patient membership, and support programs. Looking forward, the commentary calls for expanding patient roles, improving access to tools and frameworks, and integrating patient voices into leadership. This piece serves as both a reflection and a call to action for publication professionals to champion authentic, purposeful engagement that ensures research publications truly serve the patients at their core.
